Successful everyday decision making: Combining attributes and associates

چکیده
Abstract How do people make everyday decisions in order to achieve the most successful outcome? Decision making research typically evaluates choices according their expected utility. However, this largely focuses on abstract or hypothetical tasks and rarely investigates whether outcome is satisfying for decision maker. Instead, we use an task which participants describe a personally meaningful they are currently facing. We investigate processes used decision, evaluate how of them. examine well analytic, attribute-based explain predict outcomes, compare these associative elicited through free association. also characteristics individuals that associated with good outcomes. Across three experiments found that: 1) analytic analysis not superior simpler predicting outcomes; 2) contrary linking cognition biases, association generates valid cues choice outcomes as effectively approaches; 3) favouring either processes, combining both associates best explains accurately predicts 4) tendency attempt thinking more decisions. frequency, simplicity, knowledge success. propose combination,

Ethics of everyday decision making.
Evidence suggests that checklists can prevent episodes of patient harm and they are increasingly being used in patient care to ensure that procedures are being carried out. However, checklists cannot do so alone and in some situations the checklist might indicate that an intervention has been undertaken when it has not. Healthcare providers, particularly nurses, must consider not only the incre...
متن کاملDoes stress alter everyday moral decision-making?
Recent studies in the field of neuropsychological decision-making as well as moral psychology emphasize the role of emotions in decision-making. The current study examines whether stress affects moral decision-making. We induced stress in 20 participants with the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) and also examined 20 participants in a control condition (Placebo TSST). The level of stress was asse...
متن کاملCombining data mining and group decision making in retailer segmentation based on LRFMP variables
Data mining is a powerful tool for firms to extract knowledge from their customers’ transaction data. One of the useful applications of data mining is segmentation. Segmentation is an effective tool for managers to make right marketing strategies for right customer segments. In this study we have segmented retailers of a hygienic manufacture. Nowadays all manufactures do understand that for st...
متن کاملCombining Heterogeneous Information in Group Decision Making
Decision processes for solving group decision making problems are composed of two phases: (i) aggregation and, (ii) exploitation. When experts that participate in the group decision making process are not able to express their opinions using a same expression domain, then the use of information assessed in different domains, i.e., heterogeneous information, is necessary. In these cases, the inf...
متن کاملProbability Model of Decision Making for Successful Transplantation of Non-Cadaveric Organs (RESEARCH NOTE)
Mathematical modeling based on a probabilistic approach for making decisions for organ transplantation can be successfully employed in cases when the choice of decisions can affect the results produced. In this study, the minimum probability of success required for organ transplantion in case of multi-donors is determined. The governing equations are constructed in terms of probabilities and so...
